MEET MELISSA

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Melissa Payne Baker creates vibrant abstract paintings that celebrate life through rich color, texture, and movement. Her work is known for its refined balance of elegance and energy, achieved through a signature technique of layering mediums. Using palette knives to build depth and brushes to soften transitions in acrylic and oil, Melissa creates compositions that feel both expressive and sophisticated. This distinctive approach has made her a favorite among collectors and interior designers, as her paintings effortlessly bridge traditional and contemporary interiors.

A native of Mississippi, Melissa's artistic roots run deep, shaped by generations of artisans and inspired by the natural beauty of the South. After earning a degree in Marketing from the University of Mississippi and beginning her career in interior design in Atlanta, she transitioned to fine art full-time in 2006. Today she works from her Atlanta studio, often accompanied by her cat, Gesso, and her son, Payne, who continues to be a constant source of inspiration.

Melissa's artwork is represented in fine art galleries throughout the Southeast and is held in private collections around the world. She frequently collaborates with interior designers and collectors on commissioned works, creating pieces tailored to the character and vision of each space and client.

Her art has been featured in prestigious publications including Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Good Grit, House Beautiful and Traditional Home, and showcased in prominent designer show houses throughout the Southeast. Beyond the studio, Melissa is also deeply committed to giving back. Through her artwork she has helped raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, while also supporting organizations such as Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and many local private school auctions.

Whether through her large-scale canvases, her hand painted glassware line, fine art wallpaper installs or creative collaborations with fellow artists, designers and clients, Melissa remains devoted to one goal: creating art that brings beauty, inspiration, and emotional connection into everyday life.
