MEET MELISSA

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Melissa Payne Baker’s canvases are a vibrant celebration of life, blending richness and elegance through a masterful play of texture and form. Best known for her unique abstract paintings, Melissa created a signature technique of layering mediums—using palette knives to build  depth and brushes to soften transitions in acrylic and oil. Her unique perspective has made her a favorite among collectors and interior designers worldwide, as her work provides the perfect bridge between traditional and contemporary interiors.

A native of Mississippi, Melissa’s artistic roots run deep, nourished by generations of artisans and the natural beauty of the South. After earning a Marketing degree from the University of Mississippi and pursuing a career in interior design, she transitioned to fine art full-time in 2006. Today, she creates from her Atlanta studio alongside her cat, Gesso, and her son, Payne, who serves as a constant source of creative inspiration.

Melissa's artwork is shown in fine art galleries across the Southeast, has been acquired by many private collectors across the US and abroad, and she continues to build a strong clientele by working with designers and collectors on commissioned pieces.  Her art has been featured in a prestigious array of publications, such as House Beautiful and Traditional Home, and showcased in notable designer show houses in the Southeast. Beyond the studio, she is a dedicated philanthropist, raising awareness and donations through her art for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and supporting organizations like Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Whether through her large-scale canvases, her "Art For Every Palette" glassware line, or her collaborations with fellow artists,  Melissa remains committed to one goal: creating art that touches the heart.
